Weblog Review Makes Me Think

My blog was reviewed the other day on the Weblog Review. It's given me some good ideas. Here it is...

"This observational blog is actually fairly amusing, so I was disappointed to see that it hadn't been updated for over a month. Ok sure, maybe the author has a life that is far more exciting than mine and he is out *observing* stuff, rather than sitting at his keyboard, but in the blogosphere familiarity does not breed contempt. There are so many blogs out there that there will always be a little redundancy, but everyone writes differently and has their own take on things.

I enjoy the post dissecting the photo of a "fat man" and his links to other, funny websites such as the "church sign generator". The posts go serious for a moment with a band shout-out before it gets back (a month later) to some Robbie Williams frivolity.

The template is an oh-so-familiar blogger CSS and the overall presentation is somewhat bland with a bright yellow title that fades away into the bright white background. "The Bench Press" needs a better brand. The content itself if fine, even perhaps good but 4 months worth of posts I think could have been better coming over one week which would certainly made the site a worthwhile bookmark.

I like David's sense of humor and while the site appears to have no central theme or basis, an observational blog is as a good as reason as any to run a blog if presented and maintained correctly. With a bit of work on the template, and more posts more often, perhaps The Bench Press could be a pretty decent site.

*Note, the title is a play on words based on the authors name and has nothing whatsoever to do with gym equipment.

This site was reviewed on 2005-12-12 by dylan. They felt this site belonged in the Personal category.dylan felt that The Bench Press deserved a rating of 1.5."

Therefore, some changes may be seen in the next few months.

If I can be bothered

Regards

In Response to the Robbie Williams Libel

In response to the recent Robbie Williams Libel case, Charlie Brooker wrote a very funny piece in the Guardian the other day. Here is an excerpt that illustrates very well Brooker's lively imagination.

"Robbie Williams would never shoot a man just to watch him die. Robbie Williams would never wrap a mouse's head in blotting paper and crush is with his heel. Robbie Williams would never threaten to gore a sales assistant to death with his antlers.

Robbie Williams would never jump on to Philip Schofield's back and demand to be flown to the nearest stargate. Robbie Williams would never suddenly turn into a two dimentional diagram of himself printed on the inside of a ball bearing which continuously rolls out of your field of vision the second you realise it's there.

Robbie Williams would never deliberately break a dairymaid's heart with a sarcastic puppet show. Robbie Williams would nver attack a hill with his feet, hands and forehead. Robbie Williams would never change his name to Baron Plop-Plop and fly across Devon in an undersized Sopwith Camel with a hole in the bottom so he could stick out his bum and and poo on people trying to enjoy picnics below. Robbie Williams would never seal himself inside an immense iron drum for 15 years with only a bee and a puddle for company.

Robbie Williams would never drink chalk, steer clouds, bite France, or breathe deckchairs.

And neither would Tom Cruise."

Regards

P.S. Visit YoungDresser.blogspot.com for the updates on a very good band. Well, I would think that.
